DAY NINETEEN
The transition from hospital life back to civilian life, post-chemo, has had its challenges and obstacles. I am doing well, as a matter of fact, tomorrow I will be seeing Dr. Shea and hopefully checking out of the hotel and heading home. Still low energy level, nausea under control, require lots of rest but feeling good……Gary

Going home, how wonderful! Hoping for you that it happens. I’m sure that you don’t feel terrific yet, but things are looking up. Good for you Gary.

Hello Gary,
I haven’t logged in in a while, and it’s great news that you’re out of the hospital!! I read over the last two weeks of your postings and was delighted to hear that you like Krispy Kreme doughnuts too. They are near and dear to my heart. If you’ve never done it, you should make a field trip one day to one of their shops where you can watch the doughnuts grow and develop from a little lump of raw dough into the exquisite finished product they become. It’s incredible! Well maybe it’s only me that feels that way. I love to see the workings of machinery that way, and I love the Hot Ones that always seem to be waiting at the end of the line. I also think they are imbued with magical healing powers, so have another one!
You mentioned Dr. Shea in one of your posts. If that’s Tom Shea, I know him from church and he’s a great guy. I hope everyone at UNC is, but he’s the only one I know personally and it’s good to think of him helping to care for you and get you well again.
We were very proud to see that Melanie passed her OTA certification examination recently, and she’s probably started working by now.
All the best!

Dad, listen to your COTA/L daughter and spread the tasks over the day so you feel a little more energetic or perform only one heavy task… you heard this lecture before and probably dream about it at night but I am not there anymore and feel like you might need to hear my lecture anyway! I am glad you are feeling better than when I was there. I can’t wait until you are back on your feet again though! Keep pushing but don’t be surprised when your energy takes it’s own time coming back. Jim and I think about you and Amy everyday and wish we could be there. Don’t forget Amy, caregivers need rest too!!!!!!
Love you both,
Melanie
